Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up my allergen profile?
Open the app and go through the onboarding flow. You'll be asked to select your allergens from a comprehensive list. Your profile is stored securely on your device and never sent to our servers.
How many free scans do I get?
The free tier includes 2 cloud AI scans per calendar day. Scans that fail to detect any dishes do not count toward your quota. Reopening scan history never consumes quota.
Does the app work offline?
On-device OCR works offline, but cloud AI analysis requires an internet connection. You can view previously scanned results offline from your scan history.
How accurate is the allergen detection?
Our AI analyzes extracted menu text against known allergen patterns. Accuracy depends on menu quality, OCR clarity, and whether all ingredients are listed on the menu. Always confirm with restaurant staff. See our Terms of Service for the full medical disclaimer.
Does the app share my allergen data?
No. Your allergen profile stays on your device. Only anonymized allergen IDs for the current scan are sent with each AI analysis request. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel through your App Store or Google Play Store account settings. Subscription auto-renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Which languages does the app support?
The app can read menus in 100+ languages through OCR. The interface is in English. Language-specific allergy card generation for restaurants is available for major travel destinations.
Is there an iOS version?
Android is launching first. iOS is planned and will be available on TestFlight — sign up for the waitlist to be notified.

Common Issues

Camera not working

Ensure the app has camera permissions enabled in your device settings. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Menu Detective > Permissions > Camera.

Scan failed or no dishes detected

Try taking a clearer photo with even lighting. Ensure the menu text is in focus and not obscured. The app works best with printed menus — handwritten or faded text may not OCR correctly.

Subscription not restoring

Make sure you're signed into the same App Store/Play Store account used for the original purchase. Tap "Restore Purchases" in the app settings. If issues persist, contact support.
